Vile rapist who preyed on woman he met in nightclub jailed for life

A rapist who preyed on a woman as she walked home alone after a night out has been jailed for life.

Vasile Nastase, 49, met his victim in a nightclub in Leigh on Saturday, November 17.

The woman was walking along Railway Road when Nastase put his arm around her.

Despite pleading with him to let go, Nastase forced the woman into an property on Findlay Street where he raped her.

Nastase, of Findlay Street, Leigh, was jailed at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to rape.

The defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 10 years and five months in prison.

Detective Constable Chris Waddicar, of GMP ’s Wigan district, said: “Nastase preyed on the victim as she was walking alone, and subjected her to a horrifying ordeal.

“Following his arrest, Nastase showing despicable contempt for the victim by continuously denying the offence, but his lies were uncovered following forensic enquiries and he was subsequently charged.

“I’d like to praise the bravery of the victim throughout the case and I hope this sentence brings her some comfort knowing the person responsible is behind bars.”
