Vile racist graffiti in Cardonald covered up after call to action by Refuweegee

Vile racist graffiti has been covered up after a call to action was issued by a refugee charity.

The wall on Forfar Avenue, just off Paisley Road West in Cardonald, was spray-painted over the weekend.

Racist vandals used red paint to write "wipe out Gaza Strip" and "no hard border" among other profanities on the side of a Boots chemist.

Refuweegee charity was alerted to the graffiti by a concerned local and put out a call for any local artists to help cover it up.

The call was answered by Negative Destination who took his own paint cans to cover it up with a colourful anti-racist message.

The new art shows a robot-looking creature radiating rainbow colours and asking "racism's kinda s*****, isn't it?"

Negative Destination put out his own call for help for more paint after realising just how big the wall was and was greeted by a whole load of people keen to help - who even brought him beer and pizza.

Posting on Instagram after finishing up for the day, he said: "People showed up in swarms, in a crowd. I made so many pals, it was amazing. They brought me beer and pizza. I love this city.

"The support I got was insane, I'm so happy."

Refuweegee said: "Yesterday we received a message about some racist graffiti.

"Our role in welcoming people to the city does not stop at welcome packs and food support. It is our responsibility to create a welcoming space however and wherever we can.

"Within an hour of asking if any of our spray pals were about @negativedestination was on site not just covering the words but making something really beautiful in it's place.

"This is how we welcome. This is Glasgow."

Another amazing show of unity from the city this week.
