Vile racist and sexual graffiti sprayed over East Kilbride play park

A mum whose five-year-old son read vile sexual and racist comments plastered across play equipment in an East Kibride park is calling for urgent action to clean it up.

Mo Macmillan told Lanarkshire Live there has been ongoing issues at the swing park on Stratford/Tewkesbury Road for months.

These have included graffiti, vandalism and broken glass, which Mo said is a danger to the many children using the park, including those with additional support needs, like her young son.

In the latest spate of vandalism, discovered yesterday, the word 'n*****' has been sprayed on equipment along with the disgusting message 'slop on ma k***' as well as the outline of genitalia at the words 't******' and 'f*** yer YMB'.

A furious Mo said: "I'm sick and tired of the constant graffiti down there. It's a disgrace.

"My five-year-old (who can read) even pointed it out when we were down the park.

"Numerous autistic children play there, including my son.

"Going to the park is the only place some of these children socialise and part of their routine and comfort zones.

"My wee boy was picking up broken glass the other day too. I did email the council graffiti team but they haven't responded.

"I believe it was a public holiday so nothing would be done. I have reported other instances to the council before this but nothing seems to change - some of the graffiti has been there for months.

"This is totally unacceptable vandalism. I'm all for folk having a laugh but there's loads of little kids round here that use the park day in, day out. Not clever and certainly not funny.

"They do not need to be subjected to racism and sexual graffiti. This seems to be getting more frequent as well as the broken glass left round the paths surrounding the park. Enough is enough."

South Lanarkshire Council was contacted for comment as were Police Scotland.
