Vile Nazi swastika graffiti appears on shop and cafe windows in Ayrshire town

Vile anti-Semitic graffiti has been sprayed all over Ayrshire shops and a café.

Troon traders say the sight of swastikas on their businesses was ‘unsettling’.

The Nazi symbols were plastered onto a row of shops on the town’s Church Street.

Popular café Strawberry Cushion faced the brunt of the vandalism with male genitalia also sprayed on to the venue overnight between October 13 and October 14 last week.

Neighbouring businesses Perfect Fit Alterations, Troon Pets and Aquaria and perfume shop Scentsations were also hit.

Michelle Scott owner of Scensations has told how staff there helped to clean up the other business windows.

Speaking to Ayrshire Live, she said: “It was quite unsettling to come to your work and find that, thankfully, whatever was used was washed off fairly easily.

“My business partner Shona noticed it first and we managed to get rid of it before the shops opened.

“It is a sad sight because Troon is such a nice place to come and shop.

“It is the first time anything like this has happened on this street.”

Audrey Young owner of Troon Pets and Aquaria said: “I was relieved to see it wasn’t paint, that could have meant replacing our windows.

“It was quite a horrible symbol to see coming into your work.”

Police launched a probe into the graffiti.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Between 7pm on Wednesday, October 13 and 7am on Thursday, October 14 shop premises in Church Street, Troon had graffiti daubed on them in the form of a swastika and genitalia. Enquiries continue with local officers.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0568.
