Vile customer spat on chip shop workers over food order

A chip shop worker was left terrified after a customer aggressively spat on them in a vile fit of rage.

The disgusting attack came from a disgruntled woman who was unsatisfied with her food order, leaving staff and watching customers gobsmacked.

The woman came into the shop at around 6.15pm on December 29, looking quite distracted, as she was talking on the phone and carrying several shopping bags.

Nim Gill, who runs the chippy, took her order, although he struggled to understand her, as she had a foreign accent.

He prepared her some chips with mayonnaise, but then she said she wanted them with chilli sauce, and he was happy to start again and get her some more.

The woman became aggressive and violent at the Barwell Fish Bar (Google)

She then said she wanted some sauce in a pot, but when she was told there would be an extra charge for the sauce, Mr Gill said that she “changed” and became very hostile.

She threw some change that was on the counter, swore at Mr Gill and leaned through the small opening in the screens, put up in a bid to stop the spread of covid and spat on him.

Some of her spittle landed on Mr Gill’s arm while most of it went on the counter.

The vile attack took place at Barwell Fish Bar, in Stapleton Lane, in Leicester according to Leicestershire Live.

Nim Gill said: “It’s quite disgusting. We were quite shocked. I just stood there and thought, what just happened.

“We have never had issues in this shop.

“We’re a community shop, we do a lot of charity work. We have lovely rapport with out regulars.”

The woman stormed out of the shop and Mr Gill followed, but she got into a taxi and left the scene.

Other workers in the shops told him that she has come in before, and that she is often very awkward to serve.

The woman was described as aged 35 and 45, well dressed and wearing make up, with a black leather coat with a furry collar, and dark trousers or jeans.

Since the attack, customers have been coming in to see if the staff are alright.

Mr Gill said: “With covid, I’m going to call the doctor to see if there’s any checks I can have.

“I’ve never had anything like this.

“People come in drunk, we just have a good laugh with them.

“It’s a family shop, everyone that comes in is treated like family.

“To have someone spit on you is the worst thing that can happen. I’d rather be punched in the nose.”

Mr Gill has reported the incident to the police.

A spokesperson said that officers are investigating the attack.

They said: “It was reported that the customer threw some money and spat at the person serving them.

“Enquiries are ongoing and there are no arrests.”
