Vile carer caught hitting elderly woman on head with slipper on CCTV

A vile carer hit an elderly woman she was supposed to be looking after on the head with a slipper and pushed her onto a couch.

Fadeke Adebayo, 60, from London, was employed to provide specialist 24-hour care to a 87-year-old woman living in Leyland. The elderly woman's son set up a covert camera in the living room when he became concerned about the care she was receiving.

When he visited her a few days later she begged him not to leave her and told him her carer "bullies her" and "makes her do things". He immediately called the care company and Adebayo was told to pack her bags and leave the address.

When he viewed the footage, it captured Adebayo verbally and physically abusing his mum on May 8 and 9 2022. The footage showed Adebayo pushing her onto the sofa, blocking her from leaving the room, flicking her in the face and hitting her on the head with a slipper.

In his Victim Impact Statement her son said that his mother being abused has left him depressed and unable to sleep. He thought he was employing someone who would care for his mother and tend to all her needs.

He said he felt angry at what happened to his mother and it has taken its toll on him that he was unable to protect her. Fadeke Adebayo pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to three counts of assault by beating and one count of ill-treatment or neglect of a person who lacks capacity.

Today she has been sentenced at Preston Crown Court to 18 months in prison.

Isla Chilton Senior District Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West said: “Fadeke Adebayo should have treated this vulnerable woman with dignity and respect, but instead she degraded her in the most deplorable way. Her son’s instincts proved to be correct and I would like to thank him for his quick thinking in installing a camera and providing us with the video evidence which has helped us bring her to justice.

"When faced with the overwhelming evidence against her she was left with no other choice than to plead guilty to the offences she faced. Today’s sentencing shows how seriously we take the criminal mistreatment of vulnerable and elderly people.”
