Arsenal have completed the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

The striker joins the Gunners after a deal worth €63million (£55m), with a further €10m (£8.74m) in add-ons was struck between the two clubs earlier in July.

He has signed a five-year deal and is expected to travel to Singapore to join up with Arsenal’s pre-season tour shortly. He could debut as soon as Thursday, when the Gunners face Tottenham in Hong Kong.

Gyokeres is the latest arrival at the Emirates Stadium this summer in what has already been a busy window as Arsenal aim to end their five-year wait for a major trophy next season.

Mikel Arteta has already bolstered his squad with the signings of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera. Now the Spaniard has got the centre-forward he’s been craving.

In signing Gyokeres, Arsenal have added one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers over the past two seasons to their ranks.

Upon joining Sporting from Coventry in the summer of 2023, the Swede went on to score 97 goals in just 102 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese giants, playing a key role in their title win last season.

As Gyokeres signed, manager Arteta added: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyökeres to the club. The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves.

“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.

“We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him.”
