Vikings WR Brandon Zylstra ‘has made up a lot of ground’ in camp

After missing some early reps in training camp with a hamstring injury, Vikings second-year wide receiver Brandon Zylstra appears to be right where he needs to be.

The former DIII player didn’t have a reception in the team’s first preseason game against the Saints, he did play 21 percent of the offensive snaps.

More importantly, he’s impressing the decision makers.

“We have got a bunch of kids like that, but Brandon (Zylstra) coming off an injury, had made up a lot of ground, came back from the injury,” Vikings offensive advisor and assistant head coach Gary Kubiak said Thursday. “It takes a period of time to adjust, but what I’ve seen and I’ve seen the last few days, is that he is starting to look like himself again. This will be a big two weeks for him and he’s going to get a great opportunity with us, and he obviously can help us.”

Zylstra is currently listed as the team’s fourth wide receiver on Adam Thielen’s side behind Thielen, Chad Beebe and Laquon Treadwell.

Zylstra will probably move up with Treadwell on the trade block.

We’ll have a better understanding on what Zylstra’s chances are to make a roster spot for the second-straight season looks like after Sunday night’s second preseason game against the Seahawks.
