Vikings trying to keep CB Kris Boyd involved, even with injury

Vikings seventh-round pick Kris Boyd missed last Friday’s preseason game, and has been held out of practice with an undisclosed injury.

This is tough news for a cornerback who is trying to push for a roster spot. Of course, it’s hard to make a push when you’re not playing.

Even while he’s out, the Vikings are trying to keep Boyd involved as best they can.

“We really regret he’s had the injury and not being able to come out and practice and not being able to play in the game,” Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards said Monday. “Those are valuable reps, so we are just trying to keep him mentally in tune now and as soon as we can get him right back out here, put him right back to work.”

On the team’s depth chart, Boyd is listed as the fourth cornerback on the right side, and at best, the seventh cornerback overall, which would likely make him a roster casualty.

We’ll see if he can change that by getting on the field sooner rather than later.
