Vikings to face Saints in wild card round

The dust has finally settled in the NFC after a wild Sunday Night Football game.

With the 49ers’ win over the Seahawks on Sunday night, the Saints are now the NFC’s third seed. They’ll host the Vikings in New Orleans in the wild card round of the playoffs.

The Saints finished the season 13-3 overall, while the Vikings were 10-6.

Of course, these two teams have some playoff history with each other over the years. Just two years ago, there was the Minneapolis Miracle that sent the Vikings to the NFC Championship on a walk-off Stefon Diggs’ 61-yard touchdown.

And then there was the 2009 NFC Championship in which the Saints won 31-28 in overtime. That was the beginning of the Bountygate scandal. The Saints ended up winning the Super Bowl two weeks later.

A few tidbits on the matchup:

  • The Vikings are 19-11 all-time against the Saints in the regular season.
  • The Vikings are 3-1 all-time against the Saints in the playoffs.
  • The Vikings are 2-3 against the Saints in the last five matchups. The last game between the two teams was last season  Week 7 last season when the Saints won 30-20 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

We’ll have plenty of coverage regarding this matchup as the week progresses.
