Vikings take down Seahawks in balanced attack

The Vikings beat the Seahawks 25-19 in the second week of preseason to move to 2-0 in preseason play.

How did Minnesota do it?

Well, it was kind of all hands on deck.

A few highlights:

  • Dalvin Cook did not play. Instead, we saw rookie Alexander Mattison get the start. Mattison ran 10 times for 40 yards. Kirk Cousins missed Mattison on a screen, which would have been a huge play in the first quarter.
  • Rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. had five catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.
  • Kyle Sloter might be making a push for backup quarterback. Sloter was 11-for-13 for 116 yards and a touchdown. Sean Mannion, meanwhile, was 11-for-14 for 88 yards to go with a touchdown. Mannion threw an interception, though.
  • What will Kaare Vedvik’s role with the team be? We aren’t completely sure, but we’re getting a better idea. Vedvik punted three times and averaged 46.7 yards per punt. Matt Wile punted just once. Vedvik also handled kickoff duties and had one extra point attempt. Dan Bailey attempted the games’ lone field goal and one extra point attempt.
