Vikings take defensive lineman with 1st-round pick in mock draft

The Vikings need extreme help on the offensive line. Most every mock draft has the Vikings taking an offensive lineman with their 18th overall pick.

Not this one from NFL.com. Chad Reuter put together a three-round mock draft and with the Vikings first pick, Reuter has Minnesota taking defensive tackle Ed Oliver out of Houston.

This pick would suggest that the Vikings likely won’t try to sign Sheldon Richardson, who is set to be a free agent on March 13.

If that’s the case, a defensive tackle certainly makes sense, but I think most would argue the team take an offensive lineman. Kirk Cousins is the type of quarterback who needs a steady line to have success.

As for Oliver, our Luke Easterling has him ranked as his second-ranked interior defensive lineman.

Oliver seems like an extremely strong inside player who is especially good against the run. He’s also a player who can explode from the inside as a pass rusher as well.

The Vikings have Linval Joseph, Jaleel Johnson and Curtis Cothran as defensive tackles under contract for 2019.
