Vikings surge into top-5 of power rankings

With Minnesota’s big 42-30 win over the Lions in Week 7, the Vikings improved to 5-2 on the season and won their third-straight game.

With that, the Vikings moved from No. 7 to No. 5 in USA TODAY’s Week 8 power rankings.

The Vikings are just a game back from the first-place Packers in the NFC North and would currently be the home-field Wild Card team if the playoffs started today.

Minnesota has a short week, playing the 1-6 Redskins in Week 8 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Redskins rank 30th in the power rankings.
