Vikings’ selection of Stefon Diggs picked as a ‘late-round steal’ by PFF

This isn’t exactly breaking news, but the Vikings did quite well by drafting Stefon Diggs in the fifth-round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

While Diggs isn’t on the team, in six years with the team, he piled up 4,623 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns. In 2019, he had a career-high 1,130 catches.

Diggs’ selection by the Vikings was picked as one of the NFL Draft steals by Pro Football Focus.

So, why did Diggs fall in the first place?

Michael Renner of PFF answered that:

The production concerns were difficult to ignore. Diggs had only 792 yards his final season at Maryland, and his career-high 842 yards came as a freshman in 2012. It’s also worth noting that he had a broken leg and lacerated kidney during his college career.

The Vikings were able to get six solid years of Diggs before trading him to the Bills for a 2020 first-round pick (which ended up being Justin Jefferson) a 2020 fifth-round pick, a 2020 sixth-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick.

That’s pretty good value for slick Rick Spielman.
