Vikings select S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in 2019 redraft

With the 2019 season in the books, we’re able to reflect on how the 2019 first-round picks faired.

With the 18th overall pick, the Vikings selected center Garrett Bradbury. Bradbury had an up-and-down first season in the league.

If we did a redraft of the 2019 draft, would the Vikings still take Bradbury?

Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports says no.

Trapasso has the Vikings taking safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson with that pick. Gardner-Johnson was originally selected in the fourth round by the Saints.

Here’s what Trapasso wrote about the pick:

With myriad free agents on defense, the Vikings go with the best, most versatile defensive back in the 2019 class in Gardner-Johnson. He did it all on the back end for the Saints as a rookie.

With Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris, there wasn’t a huge need for Gardner-Johnson at safety, but he certainly could have helped everywhere else in the Vikings’ secondary.

There’s a pretty decent chance that the Vikings will be taking a defensive back in the first round of the 2020 draft.
