Vikings safety Anthony Harris signs franchise tender

The Vikings gave safety Anthony Harris the franchise tag earlier this offseason, and despite reported talks of an extension, nothing long term has been worked out.

Though Harris’ long-term future is in question, his short-term became a lot more concrete. He signed his franchise tender with the Vikings Sunday, Harris announced on Twitter.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Harris’ agents and the team will continue to work on a long-term deal, which Harris mentioned in his statement.

Harris is coming off a season where he had six interceptions, tying him for first in the NFL. In addition to that, Pro Football Focus gave Harris a grade of 91.1 out of 100 for last season, which was the highest of any NFL safety.

It helps to have Harris back on the Vikings defense for 2020. Harrison Smith and him back deep at safety can help the young cornerbacks for 2020. If a young corner makes a mistake, at least there are two of the best safeties in the NFL to cover.
