Vikings safety Anthony Harris optimistic despite not getting long-term contract this year

Minnesota safety Anthony Harris was hit with the franchise tag this offseason.

He reportedly wanted the security of a long-term deal, but he ended up signing his tender. The deadline passed for the Vikings and him to work out a long-term deal for this year.

Harris recently talked with reporters about that situation.

“For anybody, in a dream world, you’d want things to go completely your way, no hiccups or anything like that. But honestly, I wasn’t really worried about it. I’ve always been saying my destiny will come to me,” he said, via Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune.

Harris is coming off a season where he had six interceptions, tied for a league best. He also had one in the playoffs.

Besides the picks, Harris had 11 pass deflections and he was the highest-graded safety by Pro Football Focus in 2019.

However, Harris had to work his way up the depth chart in order to thrive with the Vikings, so he’s only had two seasons of success. With Harris on the franchise tag for 2020, this becomes a crucial year for him.
