The Vikings have some important free agency decisions to make this offseason.
At least the team doesn’t have to worry about right tackle Brian O’Neill — for now, anyway. O’Neill is still under contract, but he becomes a free agent in 2022.
Spotrac already has a market value listed for O’Neill. The outlet has him valued at $6.8 million a year. If that number is any indication of what he will actually earn for a contract, Minnesota wouldn’t have to break the bank to re-sign.
The 2022 cap situation is hard to predict, given that we don’t know how much teams’ revenue will be. However, even if Minnesota has to free up other assets, the team should really try to keep O’Neill.
He had a PFF grade of 77.5 this season, which was the highest mark of any full-time starter on the Vikings’ offensive line. And if O’Neill’s price tag does fall within the $5-6 million range, I think the team should definitely try to retain him.
