Vikings rookie Olabisi Johnson making push for WR3?

There Vikings doubled down at receiver in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, picking both Olabisi Mitchell and Dillon Mitchell.

Despite being listed as “other” on the wide receiver depth chart, Johnson has been impressing his coaching staff.

“Olibisi is doing well,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said via the Star Tribune. “He’s playing a multiple number of spots. Catches the ball well. Gets to the right place most of the time.”

Johnson, based on this first depth chart, is behind Adam Thielen, Chad Beebe, Laquon Treadwell, Brandon Zylstra, Stefon Diggs, Jordan Taylor and Jeff Badet.

If that is how the wide receiver position shakes out, Johnson won’t make the team.

But there’s been hype around him in training camp, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a surge once preseason games get underway.

Johnson thinks he has a good chance to make the team.

“I think it’s good,” Johnson said via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “I have that special teams aspect, I have the blocking aspect, I have the playbook down, so it’s just a matter of time. I’m going out there with confidence and knowing my ability on the field because I’ve got it.”

We’ll get our first look at Johnson in live-game action on Friday night against the Saints.
