Vikings rookie G Dru Samia has impressed team in camp

When the Vikings drafted guard Dru Samia in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, most experts thought it was a steal.

With training camp now over, Samia has continued to look the part, and most importantly, he’s impressed the team’s top decision maker when it comes to playing time.

“Dru is a physical, tough guy, probably a little bit bigger body guy than some of our other guys,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Friday. “He is obviously still learning the areas that he has to get better, but I think he has done a nice job in camp. I think he’s got a good future and I like his competitiveness and his toughness.”

Samia is currently listed as the team’s third right guard behind Josh Kline and Danny Isidora. That’s probably about where we thought he’d be, but don’t be surprised if he’s a starter on this team in 2020 or 2021.

We’ll get to see him next in Sunday’s preseason game against the Seahawks. In the team’s Week 1 win over the Saints, Samia played 27 snaps – 44 percent of the offensive plays.
