Vikings release former All-Pro CB Xavier Rhodes, making for enticing option for Raiders

At this moment, the free-agent negotiating period is still set to being on Monday. That means today is the last business day before the frenzy begins. And NFL teams are busy cleaning house to prep for it.

Many of the releases today will be greeted with a collecting ‘meh’, but one that should not is that of former Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes according to ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum.

The former first-round pick was a Pro Bowler in 2019. It was his third trip to the Pro Bowl and he was an All-Pro as well in 2017. Now he is a cap casualty ahead of the 2020 offseason.

His release saved the Vikings $8 million on this year’s cap and a lot more in future seasons. The 29-year-old has started every game in which he’s played the past six seasons, missing just five games, and putting up 10 career interceptions and 73 pass breakups.

With the Raiders looking like they will be moving on from Daryl Worley as their starting cornerback, Rhodes instantly becomes an intriguing option for them, depending on what type of contract he may demand.
