Vikings RB Roc Thomas gets probation for felony marijuana possession

Earlier this offseason, Vikings running back Roc Thomas was charged with felony marijuana possession.

On Wednesday, Thomas received three years’ probation as part of a plea deal given to first-time offenders that avoids a full conviction.

More from the Twin Cities Pioneer Press on Thomas:

Thomas received a stay of adjudication, which is required under state law for first-time, low-level drug offenders, the Dakota County attorney’s office said.

That means the charge should be dismissed after a probationary term of up to three years. Conditions of probation include a chemical dependency evaluation and possible treatment; no alcohol or drug use; and random testing.

Thomas had eight rushes for 30 yards last season with the Vikings. He’s hoping to earn a roster spot in 2019 with the team.

Per Spotrac, Thomas is due $570,000 next season, but the Vikings could release him without penalty. He could face punishment from the NFL because of the marijuana case.

Thomas is part of a Vikings running back committee that includes Dalvin Cook, Mike Boone, Ameer Abdullah and 2019 third-round pick Alexander Mattison.
