The Vikings beat the Falcons 24-12 on Sunday.
In that game, Kirk Cousins threw the ball just 10 times.
Cousins was efficient on those 10 attempts, completing eight of those passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Last season, the fewest attempts Cousins had in a game was 21. Prior to that, his lowest as a starter was 15 attempts.
“Throwing 10 times is really unique,” Cousins said after the game. “Probably haven’t had a game with that few attempts since probably Pop Warner. I think I threw 10 times or more most in high school games too. It’s what the game called for. I have no problem with being conservative. As long as we win the football game, that’s all that matters to me. We found the way to get the win, so the approach was a great approach.”
This will probably the fewest pass attempts Cousins will attempt this season, but he isn’t going to throw the ball like he did last season, either. With the new emphasis on the running game, we’ll see Cousins throw less, but put in more of a position to succeed.
