Vikings’ playoff hopes come to a brutal, heartbreaking end

The Minnesota Vikings’ slim playoff hopes are finally over.

With the loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, the Vikings have officially been eliminated from the playoffs. The ending to the season almost feels cruel in a way considering they were the last team to beat the Packers.

But after the news hit that quarterback Kirk Cousins had tested positive for COVID, it was probably hard for fans to avoid waiving the white flag and moving on to next season.

Backup quarterback Sean Mannion hadn’t taken a meaningful snap since 2019, and the Vikings were playing the Packers at Lambeau Field. There was little to no chance of Mannion going on the road and spoiling Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ MVP season.

The Vikings were doomed from the start.

You have to wonder if coach Mike Zimmer will consider starting rookie quarterback Kellen Mond against the Chicago Bears in next week’s regular season finale.

The team might as well see what it has in the future because the present has been reduced to nothing more than a bunch of should haves, could haves and would haves.
