Vikings part ways with S Andrew Sendejo to clear salary cap space

As expected, the Minnesota Vikings will not pick up safety Andrew Sendejo’s option for the 2019 season.

That will clear $5.5 million in cap space. Per Over The Cap, the Vikings now have about $9.8 million in cap space.

Sendejo, 31, has been with the Vikings since 2011, playing in 93 regular-season games (58 starts) and four playoff games. He’s a hard-hitting safety who doesn’t quite fit the mold of today’s NFL. Sendejo has been fined twice and suspended once, costing him more than $251,320.

In nine seasons, Sendejo has made just over $14 million.

Sendejo played in just five games last season because of a groin injury, and with the emergence of Anthony Harris (a restricted free agent), Sendejo became expendable.

We’ll see whether Sendejo gets a contract elsewhere. He’s a solid player, but this is a talented free agent class for safeties.
