Vikings open training camp with $4.668 million in cap space

Remember when we were all panicking about the Vikings cap situation earlier this offseason?

Well, it’s not really that bad.

In a report from the Players Association, the Vikings have $4.668 million in cap space as we’re set to open up training camp.

While that’s not a lot of money, the Vikings have some flexibility to make some roster moves if they have to.

The average cap space for teams in the league is $16,703,651.

The Cardinals, Broncos, Steelers and Buccaneers are the only teams to have less cap space than the Vikings.

The real trouble for the Vikings regarding their cap space comes in 2020 when the team is already $12 million over the cap, via Over The Cap.

With that being said, the obvious choice to release (or restructure his deal) is defensive end Everson Griffen. If the Vikings release him after the season, they’d free up $13.1 million.

In always, trust Rob Brzezinski to work his magic.
