Vikings may have to lean on Jayron Kearse at slot corner

With Mackensie Alexander’s status for Sunday’s game against the Packers in doubt with a dislocated elbow, the Vikings may have to lean on his former college teammate to fill that role.

Jayron Kearse, who played with Alexander at Clemson, could fill that role after primarily playing a safety/linebacker hybrid role.

“I’m very confident,” Kearse said via the Pioneer Press. “I feel like I can go out there and make plays and cover anybody. It’s just about me having the opportunity. I’m probably going to have a little bit more on my plate now. I’ve got to be ready for it.”

Kearse isn’t the shiftiest guy around, but he is big, and has length that most slot receivers don’t have.

We’ll see how much the Vikings rely on Kearse. It will probably be quite a bit considering the team is without Holton Hill (suspension) and will likely be without Mike Hughes (recovering from ACL).
