Minnesota has had a flurry of narrow defeats and close victories. The Vikings lost to the Lions, but they have also beat the likes of the Chargers and Packers this year.
For Minnesota, a common theme has been woven throughout the vast majority of the 2021 slate: the team has played almost all of their opponents close.
Just like the losses before, the Vikings’ defeat came down to the very end. This time, there were no costly missed field goals, or back-breaking final drives. This time, it came down to an onside kick.
Los Angeles WR Van Jefferson secured the ball and the victory when he recovered the onside attempt late in the fourth quarter. With no timeouts remaining, the Vikings watched their playoff hopes dwindle as the Rams kneeled out the game and clinched their respective postseason berth.
