Vikings LB Cameron Smith finds heart condition after COVID-19 test

Vikings linebacker Cameron Smith didn’t realize he had a congenital heart condition until he tested positive for COVID-19, he announced on Instagram. Smith said he will miss the 2020 season.

“Although this will unfortunately end my 2020 season, it is really a blessing that we found this as my heart is severely enlarged and wouldn’t have lasted much longer. I found this out after I tested positive for COVID and had to have further testing done as protocol,” Smith said in an Instagram post.

Smtih provided linebacker depth for the Vikings. Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr are the two regular linebackers on the field, but after that, it’s pretty up in the air.

Minnesota recently signed Quentin Poling, who could provide depth at Smith’s position, in addition to possibly filling out a special teams role.

Smith also said there is a surgery that will allow him to continue to play football as soon as he is healed and cleared, and he didn’t think twice about going with that one.

“By no means am I ready to be done playing football, there is still so much more I want to accomplish on the field. I’m going to attack this like everything else I have in life,” he said.
