Vikings land Washington State QB Anthony Gordon in mock draft

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Vikings brought in some competition at backup quarterback behind Kirk Cousins.

Right now, the team has Sean Mannion signed with Jake Browning signed to a futures contract.

That’s not super promising.

Chad Reuter over at NFL.com has the Vikings drafting Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon in the fifth round (155th) overall.

In 2019, Gordon absolutely lit it up, throwing for 5,579 yards, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Although, it’s difficult to assess how transferable those numbers are to the NFL.

The Vikings have a lot of needs on this roster. At quarterback, they are set with  Cousins, who signed a two-year extension this offseason. While the backup quarterback role is an important one, Vikings fans are also hoping the team can groom the quarterback of the future while Cousins is still under center. That’s not something the Vikings have done very well at in the past, but with 12 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, it makes sense for them to use one on a quarterback.
