Vikings interview 3 kickers at combine

In case you haven’t heard, the Vikings have been cursed at the kicker position through the years.

Here we are in March, 2019, and the Vikings don’t have a kicker for the 2019 season.

Earlier this offseason, new special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf said that all options were on the table on how the Vikings will acquire a kicker.

One option, of course, is through the draft (or undrafted free agents).

Per Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune, Maalouf interviewed with three kickers at the combine in Indianapolis: LSU’s Cole Tracy, Utah’s Matt Gay and Oklahoma’s Austin Seibert.

These are really the only three kickers with a chance to make the NFL or to be drafted, so this makes sense.

In CBS Sports rankings, Gay is first, followed by Tracy and Seibert.

A look at their stats last season:

Gay: 21-for-26 FGs, 45-for-45 XPs (he was an All-American in 2017, making 30 of 34 field goals)

Tracy: 29-for-33 FGS, 42-for-42 XPs

Seibert: 17-for-19 FGs, 87-for-88 XPs

The Vikings are probably a bit hesitant in drafting a kicker considering how the Daniel Carlson experiment went last season, but it’s not like Dan Bailey was great, either.

We’ll see if the Vikings decide to take a kicker with one of their eight picks in the draft or decide to sign a free agent.
