Vikings improve to 6-2 in sloppy win over Redskins on Thursday

It wasn’t a particularly impressive win, but it was a win nonetheless.

The Vikings came away with a 19-9 victory over the Redskins at U.S. Bank Stadium on Thursday night. The win improves the Vikings to 6-2 on the season, good for second in the NFC North and fourth in the entire NFC.

These are the types of games that we’ve grown accustomed to on Thursday nights.

Minnesota’s defense came to play. Redskins quarterback Case Keenum fumbled near midfield in the first half, and the Vikings turned it into three points. Keenum suffered a concussion later in the first half and was replaced by rookie Dwayne Haskins to begin the third quarter. Haskins threw a costly interception in Minnesota territory in the third quarter after a failed sneak by Kirk Cousins on fourth-and-1 from the Vikings’ 34-yard line.

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins didn’t throw a touchdown, but he did his job, throwing for 285 yards and missing on just three of 26 passes.

Dalvin Cook added 98 rushing yards and 73 receiving yards to go with a touchdown.

In Adam Thielen’s absence, Stefon Diggs had seven catches for 143 yards.

The Vikings travel to play the Chiefs in Week 9. A major storyline to watch will be whether Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes is healthy for that game. He suffered a dislocated kneecap last Thursday night and is expected to miss this week’s game, though he has not been ruled out.
