Vikings have nicknamed Danielle Hunter ‘Gumby’

Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter is a physical specimen. He’s incredibly strong, and was recently compared to LeBron James by former tackle Joe Thomas.

As his teammates work with him throughout training camp, Hunter has earned himself a kind of funny nickname.

“There’s so many things,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Saturday. “He’s obviously got great length. These guys call him ‘Gumby’, because he can bend and lean and slither, and when he just reacts and does things like that he can be difficult to block.”

Gumby is a clay, umm, animated thing that can stretch any which way. Gumby’s show started in the 1950s and he made a comeback with a 1995 movie.

It’s actually kind of surprising that some of Hunter’s teammates remember Gumby considering most of these guys are in their mid 20s.

With Hunter’s flexibility and strength, that’s such an incredilby unique skillset.

We’ll see if that can help him build on a 14.5-sack 2018 season.
