Vikings had tryout with OT Roderick Johnson

Minnesota recently waived OT Evin Ksiezarczyk, putting the roster at 79 players in total.

As of now, the Vikings are able to have 80 players on the active roster, so is a new signing on the way? Well, the team is at least looking around.

Minnesota tried out OT Roderick Johnson recently, as reported by ESPN’s Field Yates. Johnson was a depth player for the Texans, playing in 12 games and starting three this past season.

Johnson finished 2020 with a PFF grade of 64.5, allowing one sack and picking up three penalties over the course of 245 offensive snaps.

Johnson probably wouldn’t start for Minnesota, but the Vikings could use more help at offensive tackle if Christian Darrisaw ends up missing serious time.

With Darrisaw out, Rashod Hill appears to be in line as a starter. Hill struggled in preseason action against the Colts, though: finishing with a PFF overall grade of 45.8.

In addition to waiving Ksiezarczyk, the Vikings reached an injury settlement with kicker Riley Patterson, an undrafted free agent out of Memphis.
