Vikings got a huge steal drafting CB Kris Boyd in 7th round

Many thought Texas cornerback Kris Boyd would be selected around the fourth round in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Instead, Boyd fell all the way to the seventh round. Bad for him, but good for the Vikings, the team that swiped him up.

At 5’11, 201 pounds, Boyd is big and quick, as he ran a 4.45 40-yard dash. He was named All-Big 12 in his senior season.

Some think he could move to safety considering he is lacking some athleticism. Most seventh-round picks aren’t expected to make the roster. It feels like it’d be a disappointment if Boyd didn’t given the Vikings could use some depth at both safety and cornerback.

Boyd and Holton Hill, who is suspended for the first four games of the 2019 season, are friends, both having committed to Texas in 2015.

Boyd had to wait longer than he expected, but he didn’t let it get to him.

“I mean at the end of the day I told myself I’m not going to get myself worked up,” Boyd said. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I was just chill. I’ve been chilling since yesterday doing my normal day-to-day routine, seeing my family and friends, everybody come over. I really wasn’t watching the draft because I didn’t want to think about it too much. I was turning it on when my phone was called because I’ve been chilling and embracing it at the same time. When I got the phone call I turned on the TV. I have the family come into the room and we all watched it. I mean it was a blessing, dream come true and I’m thankful for it.”
