Vikings fall to Chiefs on last-second field goal

The Vikings fell to the Chiefs, 26-23, on a 44-yard walk-off field goal by Harrison Butker.

It snaps Minnesota’s four-game winning streak, and the Vikings fall to 6-3 on the season. The Chiefs, who were without Patrick Mahomes, improved to 6-3.

A few observations from the game:

  • Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill was a real problem for the Vikings secondary. Hill finished with six catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. He had the reception to give the Chiefs the first down at the end of the fourth quarter to allow Kansas City to let the clock tick down. If you didn’t feel great about Minnesota’s secondary heading into the game, you probably don’t feel much better after.
  • Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (hamstring) was active but only lasted a few plays in the first quarter before being taken out for the rest of the game. Minnesota desperately needed him. The Vikings offense didn’t really look in rhythm at all on Sunday. Kirk Cousins finished with 220 yards and three touchdowns, but also had 19 incompletions.
  • In positive news for Vikings fans, their pass rush looked really, really good. Minnesota finished with five sacks and forced two fumbles by Matt Moore. Unfortunately for Mike Zimmer, the Vikings weren’t able to recover either.

More to come.
