Vikings’ Everson Griffen stops press conference to praise Daniel Jones

The Minnesota Vikings had just defeated the New York Giants, 28-10, to improve to 3-2 on the season, but rather than discussing the win, defensive end Everson Griffen opened his press conference by shouting out rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

“I want to give a shout out to the rook (Daniel Jones). He’s doing really good. He’s shown courage. He’s a good player, so I see good things happening for him in the future,” Griffen told reporters.

“He ran a couple of times. But most of the time he was stepping in the pocket and getting the ball out quickly.”

Griffen’s comments to open his presser caused quite a stir among media members, especially considering Jones had his worst performance of the year, but the veteran defensive end wasn’t alone.

On the field after the game, Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr made it a point to seek out Jones and exchange some wise words. And it wasn’t just trash-talking over Barr’s interception.

Even as Jones falters, he’s showing something to his coaches, teammates and opposing players that’s resonating. He’s respected inside the building in East Rutherford and rapidly gaining similar respect elsewhere.

The Giants really have something in Jones, and never was that more evident than in defeat.
