Vikings coach Mike Zimmer: ‘You can’t just roll out the ball and play’

The NFL is in the middle of a virtual offseason program.

And while teams are doing what they can, the Vikings included, being able to work with the players in person will obviously be crucial.

The Vikings have so many new faces on their team, espeically on the defensive side of the ball. For Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, it’s important to work with these players on the little things before throwing them into the fire.

“I’ll be more concerned about working with the technique of each and every player when they get here. That might take three weeks — who knows? Each player is a little bit different,” Zimmer said via the Star Tribune. “That will be the biggest factor. You can’t just roll out the ball and play. You can’t just say, ‘Here’s your playbook; now you go out there.’ It doesn’t work like that. They know what to do, but they don’t know how to do it.”

We’ll see how the Vikings, and other teams around the league, can put things together on the fly and for now, not in person.

As of now, the 2020 NFL season is on as scheduled.
