Vikings coach Mike Zimmer says he plans to make Dalvin Cook a captain this year

Dalvin Cook’s contract situation is still in question after a turbulent news cycle.

Mike Zimmer said Cook assured him he would come to training camp. Cook’s agent reportedly denied that Cook had said this.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network then reported that Cook told Minnesota running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu that Cook plans to report to training camp. Polamalu relayed that to Zimmer, who texted with Cook on July 25 to straighten things out, according to Pelissero.

But then, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Cook’s agent told him that Cook “never mentioned to (Polamalu) anything in regards to reporting to camp.”

With all that’s reportedly happened, it’s important to remember that Cook is still a great player. He’s also a captain, in the eyes of Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.

Zimmer said on KFAN that he plans to make Cook a captain this year, as reported by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

As Tomasson pointed out, the Vikings return all of their offensive captains. Meaning, the team will either have a fourth offensive captain or a demotion due to Cook earning that title.

The offensive captains from 2019 were Kirk Cousins, Kyle Rudolph and Riley Reiff.
