Vikings claim RB De’Angelo Henderson, waive S Micah Abernathy

It didn’t take long for the Vikings to fill Roc Thomas’ role on the roster. A day after releasing the running back, the Vikings claimed De’Angelo Henderson off waivers.

Henderson was a sixth-round pick of Coastal Carolina by the Broncos in the 2017 NFL Draft. That year, Henderson ran seven times for 13 yards.

Last season, he was picked up by the Jets and appeared in three games and ran twice for 19 yards.

Henderson joins a backfield that includes Dalvin Cook, Ameer Abdullah, Mike Boone, Alexander Mattison, C.J. Ham and Khari Blasingame.

In 2017, Henderson led the Broncos in carries (31) and rushing yards (129) during preseason play. There seems to be some potential here. It appears as if the third running back spot behind Cook and Mattison is up for grabs.

To make room for Henderson, the Vikings waived safety Micah Abernathy, who had signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason.
