Vikings CB Xavier Rhodes tweets back at rumor he could be traded

Twitter. What a wonderful, wonderful world.

On Wednesday, Vikings play-by-play radio voice Paul Allen seemed to suggest the team could try to trade cornerback Xavier Rhodes to Pro Football Talk Live.

Well, Pro Football Talk tagged Rhodes in the tweet (seemed unneccessary) and Rhodes responded.

It seems unlikely the team would trade Rhodes, a cornerback who made the All-Pro team just a season ago, given Mike Zimmer’s love for cornrebacks.

Rhodes was beat up last season and that led to him not meeting his standards for play on the field. However, he’s still only 28 years old and he could easily get back to the “Rhodes Closed” level in 2019.

If Rhodes is in trade conversations, though, it would have to do more with his contract than anything.

Rhodes is set to be the ninth-highest paid corner in 2019 with $10.9 million. He’s due $10.5 million in 2020, $11.7 million in 2021 and $13.8 million in 2022, although the Vikings could release him after the 2021 season with no penalty.
