Vikings CB Mike Hughes is ‘a little ahead of schedule’ in ACL rehab

Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes had his rookie season cut short after tearing his ACL just six games into his NFL career.

Now, about six months after surgery, Hughes is running, and Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he’s on the right track.

“It’s a process. In fact, he’s a little ahead of schedule, so we’ve got a long way to go. But I know he’s been here all off season working extremely hard at it,” Spielman said Tuesday. “I know he’s anxious to get back on that field and I know Eric Sugarman and our medical staff and the success they’ve had with ACLs and knee injuries and how quickly they get those guys back playing on the field and playing at the same level or higher. As he makes progress but we’re excited about where he’s at this point in his rehab right now.”

We haven’t gotten an exact timeline for Hughes and we know the Vikings won’t rush his return. Vikings running back Dalvin Cook tore his ACL in Week 4 in 2017 and was ready to go to start the 2018 season, although, he was dinged up for the majority of the season as he dealt with a hamstring injury.
