Vikings being ‘cautious’ with DE Danielle Hunter

As the Vikings have gone through training camp, one of the biggest storylines and concerns has been regarding Danielle Hunter.

Hunter, who as of now has missed 11 consecutive practices, was said to have a “little tweak,” according to Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.

Vikings fans got some good news for their team’s defensive line Sunday when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Minnesota was trading for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.

Having a player like Ngakoue on the Vikings is not a bad thing from a production standpoint. However, his addition led to some Vikings fans worrying about Hunter’s overall health.

Will Ngakoue be the defensive end to pair with Hunter or a replacement for him if he’s injured? At this juncture, it seems like Ngakoue will presumably start opposite Hunter.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Hunter isn’t expected to miss extended time.

“So it’ll be Hunter on one side and Yannick Ngakoue on the other for Minnesota’s D-line in 2020,” Pelissero said on Twitter.

Zimmer doesn’t think Hunter will need to take a long time to get ready for a game. Zimmer said the team is “being cautious with him, and rightfully so,” per Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune.

Based on what’s been publicly said by Minnesota and reported so far, Vikings fans can start to get excited about Hunter and Ngakoue coming off the edge for Minnesota — at the same time.
