Vikings are signing free agent LB Nick Vigil

If last season was any indication, the Vikings have to be deep at linebacker.

Anthony Barr went down with a season-ending injury. Eric Kendricks missed five games. Even depth players such as linebackers Troy Dye and Todd Davis dealt with their share of injuries as well.

With linebacker depth a need, Minnesota is signing former Chargers LB Nick Vigil, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Vigil will most likely not be getting reps above Kendricks or Barr. That said, he can serve as a decent reserve, maybe even the third linebacker for the team. He played in 15 games for the Chargers this past season. He finished with an overall PFF grade of 60.6.

If Minnesota can’t re-sign LB Eric Wilson — which is definitely a possibility, given Wilson’s potential value — then the Vikings need to look elsewhere for linebackers. The move to sign Vigil shouldn’t be surprising.
