Vikings announce they have waived OL Tyler Higby

The Vikings activated offensive lineman Tyler Higby from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but then the team ended up waiving him, it announced Sunday.

Higby was signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent this offseason. This will be an offseason where it’s difficult for players like that to stand out, especially with all the virtual workouts and an unconventional training camp.

Higby played for Michigan State in college. He started 30 games for the Spartans — 21 at left guard, seven at left tackle and two at center.

It was unlikely that Higby would be a starter, but he could’ve been a solid depth player, given his ability to play different positions on the offensive line. Those platoon roles on the offensive line will now have to be filled by someone else.

Minnesota also announced recently that it waived Tony Brooks-James and signed linebacker Quentin Poling, the latter of whom could be a fit as a reserve linebacker and special teams player.
