Vikings announce 3 coaching moves

The Vikings announced three coaching changes on Friday afternoon.

The biggest was that Marwan Maalouf would take over as special teams coordinator, but that’s something we knew already.

The Vikings also named Rick Dennison as the offensive line coach and Drew Petzing as the wide receivers coach.

Dennison served as the Jets offensive line coach last season. In 2017, he was the offensive coordinator for the Bills and from 2015-16, he was the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Of course, in 2015, the Broncos won the Super Bowl. Gary Kubiak, who is now an offensive advisor for the Vikings, was the head coach of that team.

Per the Vikings official press release on Dennison:

Dennison has also coached 18 different Pro Bowl players over seven different positions, including six offensive linemen. In Dennison’s time as an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator, his rushing offenses have averaged 2,038 yards a season (127.4 yards per game) and 4.4 yards per carry while producing 14.3 touchdowns per season.

As for Petzing, 2019 will be his sixth season with the club. He’s worked with quarterbacks and running backs in the past as well. In 2016-17, Petzing was the assistant wide receivers coach before being names the assistant quarterbacks coach last season.
