Vikings agree to terms with Sam Darnold on one year, $10 million contract

After Kirk Cousins agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings found his replacement, even if it’s just temporary.

According to NFL Nwtwork’s Ian Rapoport, the Vikings agreed to terms on a one year deal worth $10 million with quarterback Sam Darnold.

Darnold has had quite the roller coaster career. The New York Jets traded three second round picks to move up from sixth overall to select Darnold at third overall. Things didn’t go well for him in his first three years in New York but the Carolina Panthers thought highly of him and send second, fourth and six round picks to acquire him.

Once that didn’t work out, Darnold hit free agency and signed to be a backup with the San Francisco 49ers. He played in 10 games with one start last season, completing 28-of-46 passes for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Is he good enough to be a starting quarterback long term? The talent has always been there and maybe Kevin O’Connell can extract it out of Darnold.
