Vikings address defensive line later than expected in draft

The Vikings lost Sheldon Richardson to the Browns in free agency this offseason, creating a huge hole in the middle of Minnesota’s defense.

Many (me included) thought the Vikings would address that in the early rounds of the NFL Draft.

Instead, they waited until the sixth round before drafting defensive tackle Armon Watts out of Arkansas.

Watts led Arkansas with seven sacks to go with 49 tackles and 8.5 for loss.

He was projected to be a fifth or sixth-round pick, so this is about right as far as his range goes.

Who will start aside Linval Joseph? Likely Shamar Stephen, who the team brought back to Minnesota this offseason. Stephen is OK, but he leaves a lot to be desired.

The team also has Jaleel Johnson and Curtis Cothran on the roster.
