Vikings activate RB Alexander Mattison off COVID-19/Reserve list

The Vikings did not look stellar in the run game on Monday night.

Minnesota averaged just four yards per carry and the team scored just 17 points to eke out a primetime victory.

The Vikings should get a boost in the run game down the road: their backup running back is close to returning. Minnesota RB Alexander Mattison, who missed the Bears game, came off the COVID-19/Reserve list, the team announced on Wednesday.

Mattison remains one of the best backup running backs in the league. He has at least 90 rushing yards in all three of his starts this season. He also makes an impact in limited reps when RB Dalvin Cook is healthy.

Cook had 89 rushing yards against the Bears. RB Kene Nwangwu
had 33 rushing yards on just three carries as the fill-in second running back. With Mattison back, the Vikings should definitely try to give their backup RB reps, but Nwangwu has earned a bigger workload in the offense at this juncture.
