Vikings 90-man roster player profile: DE Jonathan Bullard

Welcome to the beginning of our 2023 season preview content!

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at each player on the roster in-depth with backgrounds and how they currently project forward on the Minnesota Vikings roster.

What is the best-case scenario? What is the worst-case scenario? What should we expect from them during the preseason and beyond? We will break all of that down here.

As a staff, all of us at Vikings Wire ranked the entire 90-man roster 1-90 and will be releasing player profiles in reverse order.

Best case scenario

Bullard’s experience keeps him on the team in the same starting rotational role that he had last season. He came into the league as a 3-tech but has played inside and out during his career, the majority of which was in the Vic Fangio scheme. While Brian Flores runs something different, Bullard will be asked to do similar things.

Worst case scenario

Bullard’s lack of upside leads to him getting released on cutdown day. The Vikings defensive line group is a relatively talented one, but the upside in their youth is what makes them intriguing. Bullard is what he is: a solid player who you can trust on all three downs. However, the lack of upside could cost him.

What to expect in 2023

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Bullard is a stalwart player that can do a lot of things for the defense, especially mentor younger players. He is firmly on the roster bubble with a surplus of similarly talented players on the roster, but expect Bullard to be a starter at defensive end with Harrison Phillips.
